How to Plan Home Activities for Your Summer Guests

Depending on where you live you may have summer guests visiting your home to spend time with you or to take advantage of the amenities located in your local area. If you’re trying to figure out how to entertain you guests with home activities there are plenty of ideas to consider. Whether you have tourist site-seeing locations nearby, or your guests want to lie around the house and relax, summer guests should have options. If you’re planning home activities for your guests, here are some helpful tips for giving them a great summer getaway at your home.

How to Plan Home Activities for Your Summer Guests

  • Make your living areas inviting: While you may not think about it since you live in your home, your living areas could be where your guests spend the most time. Take advantage of beautiful views by cleaning all windows and ensuring a gorgeous unobstructed view. Look around your interiors and see if there are areas for guests to read a book in a cozy chair, or even a throw blanket thrown over the couch for cool summer nights. Consider your home a hotel with amenities that you would enjoy if staying at your own home.

  • Prepare your outdoor home: Inevitably your outdoor home will be another area that your houseguests want to spend much of their leisure time. Ensure seating is inviting, clean, and has been thoroughly washed and dried. Replace unsightly furniture cushions, paint wooden furniture, and infuse your outdoor home with personality. Add decorative touches such as plants, flowers, hanging baskets and shaded areas. Use umbrellas, fabric, arbors or other creative uses of overhead covering to ensure guests aren’t sitting in direct sun if they don’t choose to. For pool areas, ensure the pool is clean, and has plenty of safe areas for kids and adults to walk around furniture and landscaped areas.

  • Research local amenities: Before your guests arrive, research local amenities and tourist areas in your hometown. Most natives forget how to be tourists! Visit your local travel agency, hop on the internet, or visit the Chamber of Commerce or Visitors Bureau to get brochures, maps, and a list of attractions/tours for your guests. While your guests will love your home, part of the fun of traveling is seeing the local tourist spots and eating the local fare. Throwing on a backpack and taking a nature hike maybe just the activity your guests would love. Talk out with your guests before arriving, what they’d like to do while visiting you, this will save you time in planning, and cut out disappointment between you and your houseguests.

  • Tailor house activities to your guests: Consider what type of guests you are entertaining while choosing activities. For parents with children, consider what activities will be fun for parents and kids. Outdoor recreational equipment could be on hand to play in the backyard, or even painting, markers and plenty of paper on hand can keep many kids happy for hours. For seniors or those who want to relax and be still, consider plenty of reading materials, television guide and remote control maybe all they need as a break away from their home to feel relaxed and rejuvenated by your home.

Your home can be a more exciting destination spot than you ever realized. Take the time before your guests arrive to determine their interests, as well as the amenities of your home. Summer guests want to enjoy their home, but also spend quality time with you and your family. Make this a summer to remember and to form vacation memories to last for a lifetime. Who knows, you may enjoy yourself just as much as your vacationing houseguests!
