KC EATS & GREETS: The Appetizer

What's up Kansas City!

I'm Jabulani Leffall, the California "boy," New York "man," Chicago "guy" and now Kansas City "dude" with the funny name who likes to talk—sometimes too much.

In fact, I like to jabber so much that I literally talked my way into radio as host of Central Standard on KCUR 89.3 FM and creator of the Central Standard radio blog.

As a host of a talk radio show, and someone who has also hosted live TV and moderated live events, I like to create the environment of a dinner party, breakfast, brunch or snack. Think about it, where do we have most of our insightful, memorable convos?

I'll wait.

Okay, enough waiting. I'm hungry.

The answer is over food, of course, or over drinks, coffee or tea. From the conference room to the hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon, from the exclusive social club to the bench near the farmer's market—it's all cooking, sizzling, humming, growing. We spread our traffic of thought, our consumption of information, our stream of ideas and consciousness, and the aroma our movements, and all this usually happens over food.

With that, KCMag.com has given me the opportunity to expand the ongoing conversations that I'm already having on the radio and Internet as myself and civic leaders, business leaders, artists, friends, local activists, academics and frankly, weirdos, get our grub on.

Welcome to Kansas City, the town known for Negro League Baseball, College Basketball, the Mafia and Bebop Jazz, as well as green living, biotech and artistic innovation.

And as local poet and artist Jose Faus says: " For all the things Kansas City is known for, it's actually a food town."
