No matter what you’ve penciled in on your shopping list, chances are you’ll discover it here, at locally owned shops where you’ll be waited on by the shopkeepers themselves. It’s their personal touches and the superior customer service that makes Corinth Square the place to snag perfect holiday gifts for the people and pooches on your list. Someone on your list need jewelry? Check out Lillianes Jewelry and Jewelry Arts. Jewelry Arts (8221 Corinth Mall) specializes in new fine jewelry, but they can also help you design a piece that’s sure to become a family heirloom. If you need repairs, you can trust them to do the job right, including matching missing stones perfectly. They also feature the work of some of the best local jewelry designers in the Kansas City area. If you can describe or draw it, they’ll help you find a piece to match. Lillianes Jewelry (4101 W. 83rd St.) specializes in antique, estate and previously owned contemporary designer pieces. Lillianes’ motto is “Life’s too short to wear ordinary jewelry,” and once you walk into the store, you’ll soon adopt that mantra, too. This gem of a jewelry store can also help you turn the clip-on earrings you inherited from your grandmother into pierced pieces or determine the worth of the ring that came from great-aunt Mildred. If your lady-in-waiting isn’t into jewelry, try shopping at one of several clothing and accessories boutiques in Corinth. In Clover (4018 W. 83rd St.) offers scarves, jewelry, clothing and other gifts that are professional without being stuffy. The shop has a bit of a bohemian feel with sheer and flowing tops, fitted jackets and comfortable sweaters that line the walls. In the back, you’ll find chunky necklaces and brightly colored scarves to add some pizzazz to any outfit. Her Majesty’s Closet (4113 W. 83rd St.) is one of the few places in Kansas City where you can find purses, shoes and clothes by Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Yves Saint Laurent, St. John, Prada, Bill Blass and Louboutin under one roof. Most of what they offer is pre-owned, but owner Barb Bloch goes to great lengths to make sure everything in the store is like new. For the holidays, Her Majesty’s Closet is offering an exclusive trunk show by Republic Clothing, a specialty label from New York, November 4–25. The show will feature new cashmere sweaters, wraps, scarves and gloves at a quarter of the usual price. The gloves and scarves are a perfect gift for your child’s teacher, and the wraps and sweaters will make your best friend swoon. A gift of cashmere is always appreciated, and at these prices, you can afford to soften up several Christmas mornings. If you’re looking for gifts that are more masculine, a gift certificate from Sole Patch Barber Shop (8325 Corinth Mall) offers the man in your life a chance to experience old-fashioned grooming with a very modern aesthetic. Corinth Square offers animal-lovers some unique shops, depending on whether they prefer feathered or four-legged. The Wild Bird Center (4046 W. 83rd St.) offers dozens of birdseed blends available by the pound and designer birdhouses for every type of bird that might flit through the backyard. They also have state-of-the-art binoculars for bird watching and books about every sort of bird topic imaginable. For furrier friends, stop by the Land of Paws (4021 Somerset Drive), an upscale cat and dog store. With one of the largest selection of collars in Kansas City, you can outfit your best friend with a matching collar and leash featuring tattoo art, holiday themes or bright leather flowers. The selection of dog and cat beds in designer fabrics might make you wish they had one big enough for a human, but it’s really their bakery dog treats that inspire jealously. To describe the shops of Corinth Square as favorites because of their selection and variety would be an understatement. This gem is a favorite because of the people who make the shops so inviting. Start (or finish) your holiday shopping in this charming little neighborhood. You will fall in love soon enough.
Mely’s Yogurt & Ice Cream (4051 Somerset Drive) offers more than its name implies. You can also get real Hawaiian shaved ice, fresh-squeezed limeades and old-fashioned, hard-to-find candies. First Watch (4117 W. 83rd St.) is a Kansas City favorite for breakfast and lunch, but you’ve got to be an early bird—they close at 2:30 p.m. BRGR Kitchen + Bar (4038 W. 83rd St.) offers great hamburgers, sandwiches and salads, all made to order. Urban Table (8232 Mission Road) has a nice variety of small plates, including fabulous spicy fried peanuts and hard-to-find poutine. Hattie’s Fine Coffee (4195 Somerset Drive) will make you the perfect cup of coffee, cappuccino or hot chocolate. The Great Harvest Bread Company (4002 W. 83rd St.) bakes fresh bread daily for its sandwiches. You can also take home the loaf of the day or one of its holiday offerings.
